Glasgow-based creative agency Bright Signals was recently “tapped” to build something to tie Menabrea beer into the Giro d’Italia bicycle race that passes close to the brewery in northern Italy.

What they came up with was a stationary bike-controlled beer dispenser consisting of buttons, lights and motors, all powered by a Raspberry Pi. This device challenges the rider to beat the pace bike displayed on a 24-inch HD screen perched atop the pouring mechanism.

If the participant pedals fast enough, an ice cold pint is dispensed into an awaiting glass, held in place by parts from the now stationary bicycle that forms the novel user interface.

You can see the project in action below, and read more about the build on the Raspberry Pi blog here.
