We’re big fans of YouTube channel Hacker House — from their robotic bartender to their portable game console, we love it all. The team’s latest device is a Raspberry Pi-powered smart mirror, which will surely be a welcomed additon to anyone’s morning routine.

The DIY smart mirror displays the forecast, local news, and the time, among other things, as you get ready to start your day. It’s also modular, which allows you to easily move it around or hang it on a wall.

Hacker House has created a basic app, though anyone can customize their mirror by writing some code. Aside from the Raspberry Pi, the build consists of a low-profile monitor, a wooden frame, and an acrylic see-through mirror.

What really sets this project apart, however, is that it is equipped with artificial intelligence. The mirror features facial recognition, speech recognition, as well as the ability to respond to a variety of commands like weather, holidays, greetings, compliments, maps, and more. You can have it respond to you by name and configure your own launch phrase, too.

Since the natural language understanding is based on Wit.ai, you can train it to be even smarter. All of the code can be found on their Github repository here.
