Remember in the first Harry Potter film when Neville Longbottom received a Remembrall? For those unfamiliar with the series, it’s a tennis ball-sized glass ball containing smoke that turns red when its owner forgets something. Unfortunately, the Remembrall doesn’t inform the owner about what they have left behind, rendering the item fairly useless. This is something Maker Allie Fauer set out to change with the help of a Particle Photon.

Her Internet-connected Remembrall functions alongside the Todoist, a web and mobile to-do list app. After gathering the owner’s data, the Remembrall turns red if due dates of uncompleted tasks have passed. You can also integrate the device with Twitter via ThingSpeak and IFTTT.

While I will admit that my Remembrall isn’t quite as useless as Neville’s, it is sure to leave it’s owner in a state of panic as they try to figure out what they have forgotten (or at least I hope it does!).
