The Chaos Communication Camp is “an international, five-day open-air event for hackers and associated life-forms,” taking place right now in Ziegeleipark Mildenberg, AKA the Mildenberg Brick Work Park in Zeigelei, Germany. Or, if you prefer, at: 53° 01' 48" N, 13° 18' 27" E.

As a hacker camp, bringing LED-enabled clothing would be extremely appropriate, and ‘arturo182’ decided to make his own light-up rocket-hoodie with WS2812B LEDs, powered by a Chinese Digispark clone. The design was done on Fusion 360, with an imported SVG of the rocket. This was then set up in Cura on a low quality setting in order to save time, then printed on a rather large printer — perhaps an Ender 3.

From there, the rocket frame was filled in with hot glue, which would make an excellent diffuser for the LEDs that would be placed below. The strategically-placed LEDs were linked together with solder, and more hot glue was added to actually keep them in place. Finally, the rocket assembly was stitched to arturo182’s hoodie with an added cardboard backing to keep everything straight. The results look fantastic, and works using example code from the Adafruit NeoPixel library with only minor changes.
