Abdi Automation Launches their DMC3 and DMC3 Plus Desktop CNC Mills on Kickstarter

Abdi Automation has launched a pair of desktop CNC mills on Kickstarter that the company claims offer components and hardware commonly found on professional machining platforms. The DMC3 and DMC3 Plus are outfitted with Hiwin linear guides on all 3-axis with anti-backlash ball screws, 24000rpm spindle with feed rates up to 130in/min, and an epoxy aggregate base that offers an internal vibration dampening factor up to 5X higher than steel.

According to Abdi, “The Abdi Automation DMC3 and DMC3 Plus have everything you could ever want in a desktop CNC milling machine, making it possible to fulfill the true beauty of your designs.” The mills are capable of machining both soft and hard materials, such as plastic, wood, brass, aluminum, and even D2 steel.

The Abdi DMC3 and DMC3 Plus are virtually identical except for their travel specs — x-axis: 7.25in, y-axis: 7.25in, z-axis: 8in (DMC3) vs. x-axis: 12.25in, y-axis: 7.25in, z-axis: 8in (DMC3 Plus), worktable dimensions — 7.25in x 7.25in (DMC3) vs. 12.25in x 7.25in (DMC3 Plus), and overall length and weight. Additional specifications include epoxy aggregate base, three anti-backlash ball screws, six Hiwin linear guides, three Nema 34 stepper motors, and powered by an Arduino Uno.

On the software side, the Abdi DMC3 line of CNC mills are compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux, and use G-code or Chilipeppr file formats. Pledges for the Abdi DMC3 CNC mill start at $2,999 (early bird special), and $3,499 for the DMC3 Plus. Abdi Automation is also planning to release some add-ons for their mills, including an A+B rotary table for simultaneous 5-axis machining, automatic tool changer, coolant system, and more.
