When you look at Maker projects using voice control today, they are generally fairly limited, or rely on a more capable, but proprietary device such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home. MATRIX Labs now has another solution with their “open-source voice platform for all.”

The MATRIX Voice features seven MEMs microphones and runs on a Xilinx Spartan 6 FPGA with 64 Mbit of SDRAM. It is equipped with an RGBW LED array and can plug into a Raspberry Pi, giving your Pi voice control functionality leveraging Microsoft Cognitive Service, Amazon Alexa, Google Speech API, Wit.ai, and Houndify.

Additionally, this circular dev board can be used in conjunction with a Raspberry Pi’s camera for face detection and gesture recognition, further enhancing your system’s capabilities.

If you’d rather not use a Pi in your project, the MATRIX Voice even be used as a standalone device with a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-enabled microcontroller version.

To simplify hardware development, MATRIX Voice includes MATRIX OS, which allows developers to build applications in just a few lines of code using JavaScript.
