If you were lost at sea before the invention of the radio, airplane, blood-stained volleyball, or other means of easily getting help, perhaps your only hope of rescue was to put a message in a bottle and throw it out to sea.
Although the chances of the bottle method working seem extremely bad, if you could instead solder a glowing LED matrix with more detailed instructions as to your whereabouts, you’d perhaps have more of a chance.
Though not marooned, Kimio Kosaka did just this, creating an impressive LED array inside a bottle with a long gripper and an extremely thin soldering iron. You can see some of the build process in the video below — or skip to around 6:00 to see it in action!
