Baidu just unveiled their new EdgeBoard, which is based on Xilinx’s Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC and designed for edge-specific applications. The board can be fully configured and customized as part of Baidu’s Brain AI Capabilities Platform, which provides job-specific AI solutions to various industries. The EdgeBoard MPSoC features processors with real-time data crunching abilities and programmable logic, which give them higher levels of system performance, flexibility, and scalability for companies to develop AI-based products quickly and efficiently.

“Xilinx offers the world’s leading adaptive chips and development support. The flexible EdgeBoard we built based on Xilinx is designed to enable developers and engineers to quickly leverage Baidu-proven technology or deploy self-defined models, enabling faster deployment. This is the ideal acceleration engine to enable Baidu Brain to broadly serve Chinese edge AI developers.” — Youping Yu, GM of Baidu’s AI ecosystem division

The EdgeBoard features include a toolset to facilitate AI applications — an acceleration tool with object preset models (face, body, etc.), along with a complete development, compilation, and deployment toolchain. Baidu also offers documentation to help users deploy their models. They’ve also thrown in an accelerator engine that can accept presets along with deep learning framework definitions to produce models — including network structure diagrams, and implementing high-performance reasoning functions with acceleration boards.

Baidu states their EdgeBoard can be used for any number of edge-based applications and products, such as smart video surveillance cameras, autonomous vehicles, and next-generation robots.“

We are very excited to be selected as the AI technology for the Baidu Brain AI Hardware Platform. The massive and open ecosystem being built by Baidu will accelerate the innovation of edge AI across China, resulting in products and solutions that will improve the way we work and live.” — Freddy Engineer, Xilinx vice president, global sales
