Smart lights of various kinds have been coming on the market for the past few years, as have home assistants that listen and respond to your voice commands. Hacker Duncan Smith decided to combine these two things into a Raspberry Pi-powered lighting fixture.

The device’s physical build features a recycled Bluetooth speaker, a Philips Hue bulb, and several 3D-printed parts, including a translucent shade, that look quite attractive once finished and assembled. Since it’s using a Pi 3 for control, you can install either Google Assistant or Alexa depending on your preference.

As shown in the video below, the DIY Google Home can tell you the forecast, adjust the thermostat, power on the TV, and yes, turn off a lamp in a nice fading pattern when you so desire.
