Temperature sensors play a crucial role in many everyday applications — building/home automation temperature control, embedded systems, robotics, and more all rely on these sensors to maintain operation. No matter the project, tech startup Capable Robot Components has made it easy to monitor and garener temperature data with their SenseTemp four-channel sensor board, which is geared for makers and engineers alike.

According to CRC, SenseTemp is highly accurate and flexible for project applications and designed for quick tests, as well as long-duration monitoring. The platform is built around an ESP32 PCB and features a carrier board outfitted with 4x platinum resistance temperature detectors and a four-channel 16-pin temp sensor harness with 4X four-wire RTD leads.

As far as the rest of the specs go, the platform has an RTD accuracy of ±0.15°C, a temperature range of -50°C to 260°C, 4X MAX31865 (with 4 wire sensing) interface ICs, and a form-factor of 0.9 X 2.4-inches. It’s also designed to be compatible with the Adafruit Feather ecosystem with the exception of the Huzzah ESP8266 module because of the limited I/O, which will expand your capability options.

Beyond that, Capable Robot Components’ offers the board as an expanded option with the ability to power and control a thermo-electric cooler. The SenseTemp TEC is outfitted with an ST VNH5019A H-bridge motor driver, and provides the necessary passives for a 12V peltier junction, as well as an auxillary switchable power output (12V at 1A) to drive fans, motors, and other devices.

On the software side, SenseTemp runs MicroPython, allowing you to use any logging system you prefer without any adaptors or bridges. As it stands at this point, the platform’s firmware supports HTTP (live visualization, CSV, XML, & JSON) and MQTT transports over Wi-Fi, however it will support others such as NATS and Redis at some point in the future.

Capable Robot Components’ is crowdfunding the SenseTemp and SenseTemp TEC on Crowd Supply with pledges starting at $75 and up, with extra goodies thrown in at the higher tiers, including your choice of Feather board, assembled RTD harness, and thermo-electric cooler.
