If you don’t like your neighbor’s cats in your yard and would like a harmless way to get rid of them, turning on the sprinklers usually works well. This, however, means seeing them, going to the sprinkler control and turning it on, then turning it off again. Or, in this Maker’s case, you can create your own automatic cat watering device with an Nvidia Jetson TX1 board, an IP camera, and a Particle Photon.

The camera is configured to detect changes in a yard, then sends images to the Jetson board. If a cat is detected, it signals the Photon via the cloud to turn on the sprinklers. If you don’t have a problem with cats, perhaps a similar technology could be used for squirrels, or even humans loitering on your immaculate lawn!
