Circuit Scribe: Writable Electronics Kits

If you want to use electronics in a project, you’ll need a few things to get started. Such things that a veteran hackers might take for granted, like a soldering iron, voltmeter, or even assorted components and wires. Though we may assume we have them, these components don’t just “appear” in your parts drawer, and have likely been collected over years of successful builds, mistakes, and perhaps the odd eBay order that you forgotten about.

On the other hand, you can simply draw your circuits using the latest Circuit Scribe kits, now available on Kickstarter. The heart of this system is a rollerball pen that writes in conductive silver and water based ink, allowing you to literally draw your own circuits.

Not only can you doodle basic circuits with the pen to connect an LED or other simple device, but these kits enable you to construct more interesting items, such as a wing kit that can be thrown and spins to the ground like a maple seed, a DIY calculator kit, and even a quadcopter (drone) that you can fold up and fly.

Rewards start at $8 for the LiteWing flying seed kit, and extend to $1,500 for their Makerspace/classroom-centric package. It looks like a lot of fun, and it will be interesting to see what other gadgets people come up with using this type of ink!
