Creoqode Drops Audx DIY Hackable Speaker on Kickstarter

London-based Creoqode is known for their products designed for users learning or practicing their coding skills, which include Nova — a DIY AI robot — and 2048 — an open-source gaming console. The company is back with Audx, another kit that lets you build your own speaker and music visualizer, while again, learning to code in the process.

Creoqode designed the Audx around the ATmega328P microcontroller, which means it can be programmed using the Arduino IDE and connect with any Arduino dev board. The kit comes with everything needed to assemble the speaker, including a PAM8302 (2.5W class D) amplifier, MAX9814 auto-gain microphone module, TPS61090 power supply, 8 x 8 orange LED matrix, and a 3W (4ohm) speaker.

The speaker is powered by three AAA batteries and allows you to connect your mobile device via 3.5mm Aux cable, although you can go wireless using any Bluetooth receiver and connecting it to the MCU.

As far as the visualizer is concerned, Creoqode states:

“You can create your own custom music visualizer or dynamic animations which move according to the music you are playing. Simply connect Audx to any Arduino board you have, and program it through Arduino IDE.”

Creoqode is offering the Audx DIY hackable speaker on Kickstarter for pledges starting at $156 and up, which nets you one or more kits with free worldwide shipping. The company also has plans to supply an online guide along with video tutorials for beginners to help them through every step of the building and coding processes.
