Color and video aren’t the strong suits of E-ink displays, but if you need something to run on battery power for a very long time, they are hard to beat. Maker “esper2142” decided to make a name badge using a Raspberry Pi Zero, a PaPiRu E-ink HAT, an Adafruit Powerboost 1000c, and a LiPo battery.

According to the project’s writeup, the badge will run for four to five hours on a single charge. Not the month or so you might expect from an e-book, but one would have to think the Pi Zero is using most of the power in this arrangement.

Looking to stand out at your next trade show? You can find instructions on how to make your own here. Possible upgrades also include Wi-Fi and RTC modules, a solar power bank, as well as smarter shut down options.
