The entire purpose of virtual reality headsets is to provide a more immersive experience, and that’s particularly true for video games. Playing a video game on a TV is like watching the action through a window. Sure, you can see what’s happening, but you don’t actually feel like you’re part of it. Virtual reality headset make you feel like you’re in the action — at least visually. But the new Feelreal virtual reality mask is the first multisensory mask that provides far more than just visual immersion.

Feelreal recently launched on Kickstarter, and was completely funded within an hour. Now it has reached more than five times its funding goal. That’s because it can produce all sorts of effects that trigger more of your senses. It snaps right onto all of the popular virtual reality headsets, so you can use it with whichever model you prefer. But those headsets just provide visual immersion, and the addition of Feelreal will allow you to experience so much more.

There are five primary sensory effects that Feelreal can produce: scent, wind, water mist, heat, and vibrations. The scent capability is the most groundbreaking, and a total of 255 individual scents are available through Aroma Sets. Built-in coolers, heaters, fans, and misters add to those scents. So you can be fighting through a jungle in your favorite game while you feel the heat and humidity of the environment, and smell of the foliage around you. Or go kite-surfing as you smell the ocean and feel the cool water hitting your face.

If you want a Feelreal virtual reality mask, the Kickstarter campaign will be running until May 10th. Backers can get the Launch Special for $209, which includes the mask, one Aroma Set, and a bonus Aroma Capsule. Rewards are expected to be delivered in August.
