If you’ve ever played the game Operation, where you attempt to extract body parts from a conductive human, you’ve certainly been annoyed by the failure buzzing sound. On the other hand, after playing for a few minutes, you can then go about your day, unencumbered with the fact that you’ve done irreparable harm to your patient. If only there was some way to truly punish amateur surgeons so that they NEVER make a mistake on the operating table again, healthcare might be forever changed.

The good(?) news is that now there’s finally been a breakthrough in surgical simulation, courtesy of YouTubers Allen Pan and Simone Giertz. They teamed up to build a giant version of the game that’s not only closer to life-sized for more realistic extraction of brains and bones, but also features a TENS unit, which causes muscles to contract painfully and uncontrollably whenever a mistake is made. If for some reason you’d like to build your own, you can find the circuit Pan used here, as well as a model of the “ouch box.”

Be sure to check out the video below, including a surprise appearance by Hackster’s own Alex Glow, who attempts to play the normal-sized game with TENS punishment enabled. There’s also a small issue with Pan missing his flight and evidently getting a haircut at some point, but you’ll have to check out the video to see what other mischief occurs!
