In the world of consumer robotics, there are devices that can move around the room and look at you with a camera and animated “eyes,” but only Gomer features a soft gripper as a hand along with a crane-like arm. This allows it to pick up sturdy objects like keys and blocks, and can even handle fragile objects like an egg or bananna. A pair of treads enables it to move about, fetching keys or even playing a game of blocks with its human companions.

Aside from its unique gripper, Gomer — now available on Indiegogo — is equipped with all the other accessories you’d expect from a little robotic assistant. An animated face module that can physically move up and down allows it to show humans what it’s “thinking,” and a 720p camera gives it the ability to recognize faces as well as emotion.

Best of all, Gomer comes with an open SDK, so developers can customize the way this robot works depending on what is needed. Be sure to check it out in the video seen below.

Additionally, Gomer’s interactive functionality doesn’t only extend to humans, but could be used to entertain pets as well. Whether or not your dog or cat appreciates its new robotic companion is still up for debate!
