We love ourselves a good pair of LED glasses. In fact, you’ll probably catch us rocking some of Macetech’s programmable RGB shades from time to time.

Designed with the EDM communtiy in mind, Gal Pavlin has also built a pair that not only boast a Ray-Ban form factor but actually allow you to see through.

Pavlin removed the sunglasses’ original lens and replaced both of them with an STM32F0-based circuit board and 69 LEDs. Each LED can be separately controlled much like pixels on 5×7 display. An I2C bus enables the two sides to communicate with each other.

Aside from the tiny LEDs, there’s an an accelerometer for tracking head movements, a microphone for reacting to music, a light sensor for responding to light, a button for changing between modes and effects, a LiPo battery charger, a vibrating motor for alerts, as well as a mini USB connector.

Pavlin has provided a detailed breakdown of his project here, and the results can be seen below!
