LED lighting was one of the first parts of the home to get the IoT (Internet of Things) treatment. Now you can find inexpensive smart LED light bulbs that pop right into your existing sockets and can be controlled with a smartphone or a home voice assistant like Amazon Alexa. Many of them can even be set to whatever color you like. But, they’re still just boring bulbs. The new HEXI WiFi-enabled smart lighting system is different, because its unique style is something you’ll want to show off.

HEXI launched a while ago on Kickstarter, but has just reached its funding goal. The basic idea is that it’s an IoT lighting system that you can make part of your decor, and its suitable as a lamp, wall art, or whatever else you can imagine. It’s a modular system made up of many hexagonal units, and each unit can be controlled individually through the HEXI app. Each of those units is outfitted with magnets, so you can snap many of them together to form your own unique patterns.

Power is passed from one HEXI module to the next, so only one of them will require the base connector that contains the power supply. After setting up the modular pattern that suits your decor, you can set each module’s color individually or in patterns through the app. Or, you can control it by voice using an Amazon Echo or Google Home. There is even a mode that sets the HEXI lights to sync up with your music.

If you want HEXI in your home, the Kickstarter campaign will be running until April 3rd. Through the Kickstarter special, you can get three HEXI modules and the base for $65. Larger packs are also available at a discount. Rewards are expected to be delivered in May.
