Imgurian Turns a Printer into a Portable Gaming PC for LAN Parties

Modern games are full of convenient features, like great graphics, huge worlds, and online game play. But, once upon a time, that last feature wasn’t so common, and gamers who wanted to play matches against each other would physically gather for LAN parties. Everyone would bring their PCs and connect to a local area network (LAN) for an evening of competitive gaming with their friends. These days that’s usually not necessary, but it’s still fun, and Imgurian Coolstuff14 built a unique gaming PC specifically for those good ol’ fashioned LAN parties.

The specs of Coolstuff14’s build are pretty standard: a 2nd generation Intel Core i5 processor, a Radeon HD 7850 graphics card, and 8GB of RAM. Basically, all of the parts you’d find in a decent gaming PC from a few years ago. What makes this build interesting is the “case” Coolstuff14 decided to put it all in: a LAN printer/scanner combo.

The first step was to completely gut the innards of the printer. He then mounted those computer parts inside of the body of the printer, and even made them visible through the glass of the scanner bed for a little extra pizzazz. A bit of Dremel work made the various ports accessible. Finally, an LCD monitor was placed in the scanner door so that it almost resembles a giant laptop. The result is one of the most imaginative examples of upcycling we’ve seen, and it’s sure to be a hit at all of the LAN parties.
