New Zealand-based Ingenuity Micro has launched a new development board featuring the popular STM32 microcontroller and same pinout as Adafruit’s Feather boards, giving it compatibility with a wide range of add-on boards for increased functionality. According to Ingenuity Micro, the Kea Feather was designed for the rapid prototyping of IoT projects with the added benefit of having Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built into the module.

Under the hood, the Kea packs an STM32F411CEU6 Arm Cortex-M4 SoC with 128Kb or RAM and 512Kb of Flash. It also sports an 8Mb SPI Flash chip for file storage, a 32.768KHz crystal for clock generation and RTC, a 3.3V regulator with 600mA peak current output, and 21 GPIO pins — six 12-bit ADC, seven PWM outputs, three SPI, I2C, and UART.

An onboard STM32-PICO-D4 (running AT firmware) provides Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality and connects to the STM32F411 via UART pins. Rounding out the board’s features are an integrated 200mA Li-Po charger (with status indicator LED), a blue user LED, power/enable pin, and bootloader button.

The Kea Feather comes pre-loaded with NETMF 4.4 firmware, although Ingenuity points out that it can easily be reprogrammed with the firmware of your choice via USB and ST tools, or through the board’s SWD pins. Ingenuity Micro’s Kea Feather is now available for $29.95 on the company’s product page, where they offer download links for the firmware, schematics, and 3D Step files as well. Ingenuity even provides a line of add-on boards and modules that expand the board’s capabilities.
