Laundry + Monitor = Launitor

Jamie Navarro had a problem that should be familiar to many of us. When he, or other members of his household do laundry, they sometimes forget about it, leading to unpleasant results. Naturally, he decided to upgrade his washer and dryer into IoT devices using an ESP8266 module and an accelerometer.

When the washer or dryer accelerometer detects motion, and thus a load of laundry being done, the corresponding LED starts blinking. When the cycle is done, it sends the user an email alert — and can even be set up to keep sending alerts until he resets it via a physical button on the machine.

Though perhaps annoying, it’s certainly less tedious than having to do laundry again because you left it in the washing machine for way too long!
