Lightstorm Is an LED Control Module for Your Eurorack

Euroracks are a popular modular solution for DJs to contain their music production tools in a single unit. Because Eurorack modules are standardized, musicians can mix and match whichever modules they prefer. For example, you could add a synthesizer module next to your drum machine module. Now you can also add LED lighting control to your Eurorack thanks to Lightstorm.

The Strange Electronic Lightstorm just launched on Kickstarter as “the world’s first Eurorack Light Synthesizer.” In comes in two parts: the Lightstorm Module and the Lightstorm Eurorack Case. The Lightstorm Module can be used to drive Adafruit NeoPixel-style individually-addressable RGB LED strips, and the Lightstorm Eurorack Case has LEDs built right into it that you can use for a light show. If you already have a Eurorack case, you can simply drop the Lightstorm Module into that to control external LEDs.

The Lightstorm Module is built on Arduino, so it can be completely reprogrammed to suit your needs. But it also has many different effects already included. There are six parameter that you can control with the module: pattern, speed, color, saturation, brightness, and trigger. Those can all be adjusted to produce exactly the effects you’re looking, and the trigger makes it responsive to your music. The Lightstorm module also comes with a 72-LED strip inside a nice metal and plastic case, so you can start using it right away.

If you want Lightstorm, the Kickstarter campaign will be running until April 27th. Early Birds can get the Lightstorm Module for $250, or a package that includes the case for $1,100. Rewards are expected to be delivered in June.
