Everyone loves a good drinking game or contest, but the vast majority of drinking games punish you for failure by making you drink more. That’s hardly an adequate punishment when the entire purpose of drinking games is to drink. The stakes are just too low to make the game interesting. That’s why YouTuber Michael Reeves built a special cup that tazes the drinker if they don’t chug a beer quickly enough.

You may remember Reeves from the many zany projects he’s done that we have featured, including a literal hot glue gun. He created this newest contraption for Max and Chad of the Cold Ones podcast. That podcast mostly revolves around Max and Chad drinking a lot of beer, usually as part of some kind of drinking contest. When they invited Reeves onto their show, he decided that the best way to acknowledge their hospitality would be to make a cup that tazes them.

The cup itself is made from a shaker bottle, like what you’d use for protein shakes. Inside the cup is a fluid level sensor that is monitored by an Arduino. That Arduino, in turn, passes the data off to a Raspberry Pi that’s running a simple webserver. Using a separate computer, that webserver can be accessed to start the game. A timer can be set, and the drinker has to finish the contents of the cup before it runs out. If they don’t, then they’re shocked by a taser built into the cup. That certainly raises the stakes higher than a traditional drinking game!
