miniNodes Now Accepting Pre-Orders for 5 Node Raspberry Pi 3 CoM Board

miniNodes — known for the Arm-based servers — is now taking pre-orders for their 5 Node Raspberry Pi CoM Carrier Board, which can host up to five Compute Module 3 SBCs for any number of uses.

“The miniNodes Raspberry Pi 3 CoM Carrier Board can be used to provide extreme edge compute capacity in remote environments, industrial settings, or space-constrained locations. Applications or containers can be delivered to the Pi’s, to run workloads closer to the edge of the network or in places not previously possible.”

Beyond the Ethernet port and DC jack, miniNodes doesn’t offer additional details, other than potential applications for the Carrier Board — including extreme edge computing in remote locations, industrial IoT, factory/commercial building automation, smart city data acquisition and more.

Nonetheless, the board is outfitted with five slots that fit the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3 edge connector, with each SBC pooling the same hardware — a quad-core Cortex-A53, 1Gb LPDDR2 RAM, and 4Gb of eMMC. The board is an industrialized version of the Pi 3 Model B that is intended for industrial applications.

miniNodes’ 5 Node Raspberry Pi 3 CoM Carrier Board is now available for pre-order at $259 plus shipping, and is expected to ship at some point in December or January; however that’s only for the Carrier Board, you still need to purchase the Compute Module 3 SBCs if you plan to build your own cluster.
