ModBerry’s M500 Industrial IoT Computer Gets an Upgrade with the Raspberry Pi 4

A year ago, Techbase released an updated version of the ModBerry M500 industrial IoT computer, replacing the aging Raspberry Pi 3 with a 3B+, giving it better performance. With the recent launch of the Raspberry Pi 4, Techbase has yet again, announced another upgrade to the M500, which now packs the latest single-board computer. Techbase states the new model has “3X better performance over the previous Cortex-A53 powering Raspberry Pi 3+ Model B and Compute Module 3 and 3+.”

As far as specs are concerned, the M500 packs a Broadcom BCM2711B0 SoC with 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A72 processor, with either 1Gb, 2Gb, or 4Gb of LPDDR4 SDRAM. It offers 4Gb of eMMC and/or 8Gb of micro SD card for storage. An HDMI 2.0 port and a 3.5mm jack for composite/stereo (CVBS) handle audio and video, while True Gigabit Ethernet (up to 2X 10/100 Ethernet ports optional), dual-band 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0 LE handle the connectivity end. There are also options for adding a Zigbee, LTE, 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth cards if needed.

Beyond that, the M500 sports a pair of USB 2.0 host ports, 2X USB 3.0 host ports, 2X RS-232/RS-485 connectors, 4X digital inputs, 4X digital outputs (up to 30V DC), 1X wire, and 1X CAN. A 4X analog input (18-bit resolution), and ExCard I/O modules for more RS-232/485 ports, Ethernet ports, PCIe slots, analog input and output, digital I/Os, relays, and M-Bus interface come as options.
