Travel is great, but it certainly comes with some risks. Maybe you booked a hotel online in a city you’re unfamiliar with, or you’re concerned about the security at the Airbnb you rented. Whatever the case, it can be unnerving staying somewhere without a security system like you’d install at home.

But now you can bring that security system on the road with nōmad. nōmad is a modular and portable device that’s designed to provide the features of a permanently installed security system. It consists of a base unit that contains an HD camera, motion sensor, and cellular connectivity, along with multiple types of PoDs which expand the capabilities of the system.

The PoDs are small sensors that can be placed away from the base unit to increase the nōmad’s coverage, or to add functionality. There are PoDs for detecting motion, vibration, light, and even smoke. When they’re not in use, PoDs can be screwed onto the base unit for portability and charging. The entire system pairs with an app to send you notifications, pictures, and videos from the nōmad.

Right now, nōmad is in the crowd funding stage over at Crowd Supply. The campaign will be running until January 31st, 2018. Early birds can get the base unit for $249, and PoDs cost $50. Backers are expected to receive their orders in November of 2018.
