You may have spent many hours enjoying the original NES system growing up and beyond, but perhaps what you always wanted was to make music with it. While it would certainly be possible to produce a synth cartridge for the NES, musical hacker Randy Garcia has an entirely different take on things with his Guitendo build — a guitar that uses the shell of an original Nintendo as its body.

This would be impressive enough, given how well the guitar and Nintendo parts are integrated together, but he took the idea several steps further and embedded an NES Classic Edition inside the original case. This allows the system to act as a guitar, and play 8-bit games at the same time.

You can see this demonstrated in the first video below by Rob Scallon, showing that it’s very much a functional guitar as he plays a very good cover of the Super Mario Bros. theme on it. Gaming is also quite possible, shown in the second video where both modes are used at the same time with help from a second operator. Finally, Garcia goes over the system himself in the third clip, highlighting how the cartridge hatch opens up to control the miniature console inside.
