Hacking on the go is tricky, and a rooted Android smartphone will only get you so far. A lot of the common hacking tools out there require a “real” operating system, and the kind of connection flexibility that isn’t feasible— or even possible — on mobile devices. You could, of course, just use a laptop. But, after strapping on all the necessary peripherals, that can end up being bulky. That’s why Jeremy Cox, AKA supertechguy, built this Pineapple Pi portable hacking unit.

As you’d expect, it’s built around a Raspberry Pi — a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B to be exact. That’s running Kali Linux, which is a distro designed specifically for penetration testing and ethical hacking. “Ethical” is the key word there, so please don’t write us nasty letters about how Cox is using this to steal pensions from the elderly. In addition to the Raspberry Pi, there is a 7" touchscreen display, a RAVPower 20,100mAh battery Power Bank, and most importantly a Hak5 WiFi Pineapple Tetra.

The Hak5 WiFi Pineapple is a staple in the hacking world, and was created expressly for mobile penetration testing. When combined with Kali Linux, that gives Cox all of the tools necessary for routine hacking tests on the go. The on-screen keyboard is enough for basic tasks, particularly since the WiFi Pineapple has a GUI interface, but Cox recommends a portable wireless keyboard for more in-depth work. If you want to build your own, you can replicate Cox’s design for a couple hundred dollars (plus the cost of the Hak5 WiFi Pineapple).
