Practice Your Morse Code Skills with the New Morserino-32

When you think about it, Morse code is pretty much just an analog alternative to binary that humans can understand in real time. So, it’s no surprise that makers, hackers, and geeks of all kinds love Morse code. As you’d expect, there is a thriving community of Morse code enthusiasts out there chattering away. But, if you want to get involved, you have to go through the difficult process of actually learning Morse code. That’s where the new Morserino-32 comes in, which is designed specifically for practicing your Morse code skills.

Morserino-32 recently launched on Kickstarter, and has already exceeded its funding goal. It’s built on the Heltec ESP32 LoRa development board, which integrates a SX125x LoRa chip and an OLED display with the standard ESP32 module. It has a pair of built-in capacitive touch paddles for keying messages, a audio jack input for decoding Morse code messages or using an external paddle, and a line-out jack for communicating over the internet. You can even use the LoRa module to communicate with other Morserino-32 users within range.

The real selling point, however, is the inclusion of training and practice tools. Morserino-32 has many built-in programs to practice with, including an Echo Trainer where you repeat back what you heard, and a Code Generator so you can practice keying the displayed codes. The speeds of all of the modes are completely adjustable, so there’s no reason to feel overwhelmed if you’re new to Morse code.

Morserino-32 will be on Kickstarter until November 6th. A basic kit without a case costs €64 (about $73), or €80 (about $92) with the case. Rewards should ship in December.
