Q.bo One: An Open Source Robot for Everyone

If you’ve been looking for a robotic companion to call your own, Thecorpora’s Q.bo One might be worth checking out. Now on Indiegogo, the friendly, open source robot features a “spacey” white and blue look, a pair of servos to control head movement, and a mouth made out of LEDs.

Q.bo One interacts with the world via multiple microphones, speakers, and HD cameras, and is equipped with capacitive sensors on the top of its head so it can react appropriately when touched.

The robot is based on a Raspberry Pi 3 running Raspbian OS, while its sensors — designed to naturally mimic a human’s eyes, ears, and mouth — are connected to an Arduino-compatible board, allowing for a variety of different programming options. Makers can switch out their hardware as well, should they fancy a BeagleBone or ASUS Tinker Board instead.

Not only can children configure their Q.bo One using Scratch, experienced developers can also build applications in Java, C++, PHP or Python. But that’s not all, the robot even integrates with AI systems like IBM Watson, giving the platform machine learning capabilities.
