We all love the various flavors of Raspberry Pi and Pi Zero for their ability to act both as a full-fledged computer, and to control and take measurements in the real world through its GPIO pins. If you’d like to drive a couple of stepper motors, however, look no further than the “Raspberry Pi Module for Robotics Mythology.”

The project integrates a pair of A4988 stepper motor drivers, along with a buck converter that accommodates an external 7–20V supply. It’s made in the form of a pHAT package to fit nicely on a Pi Zero, and plays nicely with a full-sized Pi as well. This makes it a great platform for mobile robotics, such as cars, tanks, and those that balance on two wheels, and it could even be adapted for use with CNC equipment. As noted in the project write-up, the legend of Raspberry Pi robotics is still writing itself, and this looks like a great way to take it to the next chapter.

You can see a quick demonstration of it powering two motors at once in the video below. If you need inspiration for what kind of robot you can produce with stepper control, check out this delta bot from Anthony Garofalo.
