The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is a very unique tiltrotor military aircraft. The unusual design gives it VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) capability, while allowing it to fly efficiently like a normal airplane once it’s in the air. Unfortunately, unless you’re a pilot in the United States Marine Corps, Air Force, or Navy, you’ll probably never get to fly one. But, not all is lost, because RCExplorer has just released a new Bicopter drone kit with a similar tiltrotor design.

The overwhelming majority of drones are quadrotors, because they have nice, stable flight characteristics. The RCExplorer Bicopter doesn’t. On their own product page, they describe the experience as “you have to fly this the way it wants to be flown. It is not easy and it will take some getting used to.” But, that sounds completely worth it, because it’s just plain cool. Each of the rotors can tilt forward or backward independently, which allows for some interesting maneuvering options.

The $112 Bicopter kit includes the frame, an F3FC Racing flight controller, and a Baby power distribution board. There is a separate Bicopter Electronics kit that includes the tilt servos, two Aikon ESCs, two Emax brushless motors, wires, and props. If you buy both kits, keep in mind that you’ll still need an RC receiver and a battery. While you shouldn’t look as this experimental design as a serious tool, it does seem like it’d be a lot of fun to fly, and it’s an interesting new idea in the drone industry.
