Kids these days may be addicted to video games, but there’s no substitute for playing in the real world. RC cars have satisfied that urge for decades, but the technology has come a long way since the basic RC cars you played with as a kid. All kinds of advancements have been made in the cars themselves, like longer-lasting batteries, more powerful motors, and improved handling. But the biggest change is in control, such as with the new Real Racer RC car that features first-person view driving.

The Kobotix Real Racer just launched on Kickstarter, and has already exceeded its funding goal. Each Real Racer is comparable to a traditional lower-midrange RC car. It has four wheel drive, a full independent suspension, can reach speeds up to 12.4 mph, and has a range of up to 98.4 feet. It has a quick swap LiPo battery pack, which should be good for a decent amount of drive time.

The real draw of Real Racer, however, is the FPV driving. Users can pop their smartphone into the provided headset and see the road from the car’s perspective. The low-latency video streaming runs at 720p, so you should have a nice, clear view of the action .The RC controller is the typical style that you’re probably familiar with, and has a trigger for the throttle and a wheel for steering.

The Real Racer Kickstarter campaign is running until December 6th, and a single Real Racer costs $89 with the launch special, or $149 for two with the super early bird special. Rewards should ship in February 2019.
