Making electromechanical DIY projects is hard enough, but properly documenting the process can add another dimension of complexity. Tiny cameras, like GoPros and even those that come on phones make great platforms for shooting, but how do you actually hold this over a project when working on a bench? Traditional tripods just don’t seem to get the job done.

For this, I came up a small GoPro fixture, based on catapult lamp fixtures that you can reference with a quick search. The first version of this was quite large, and sat on the ground, but for something that can sit on a workbench and overhang your small project, I present the Miniature GoPro Catapult Tripod…

Excluding drying time, the build took just a few hours to complete, using scrap wood and a carriage bold that I had lying around my garage. After using it to record a part of a project with a GoPro Hero5 Black, I’m excited about the filming possibilities for intricate projects, especially those involving electronics. You can see a screencapture of one of the resulting videos below.

If you’d like to build your own, take a look at this Imgur set for step-by step directions, or if you prefer your information in video form with “excellent” commentary, check out the build video!
