If you’ve ever played the browser game QWOP, where you control a ragdoll runner’s leg muscles directly though your keyboard, perhaps you’ve had time to think about what it would be like to do the same with an actual person.

The Hacksmith team has, and so they decided to implement this control scheme in real life using a series of electrodes, along with an Arduino and USB host shield to pulse electricity to his legs.

The shield allows the circuit to take input from a USB keyboard, while the Arduino then commands four MOSFETS that use PWM to regulate the power sent to the electodes.

Although the orignal plan was to employ some hacked TENS units, the team eventually settled on a 24V battery to cause the muscle contractions.

As shown in the video here, the results are quite ridiculous… and likely quite painful too!
