As reported on The MagPi, Ehsan Rahman, who helps out at his father’s restaurant Khyber Tandoori in Surrey, England, decided that he could make ordering run more smoothly with a little automation.

Instead of setting up a commercial system that can take over 10% of an order’s sales price off the top, he developed his own solution using several Raspberry Pis, Pi Camera Modules, and a thermal printer.

Now the waitstaff uses Kindle Fire tablets to take orders, and after they are input, a thermal printer prints paper copies for the kitchen. Additionally, restaurant managers can remotely monitor how many orders have been placed, and even keep an eye on things via the Camera Modules.
