Robot Factory Launches Their Modular Robot PingPong on Kickstarter

Seoul startup Robot Factory has taken to Kickstarter to launch their PingPong modular robot platform, which can be used to create a myriad of different robots, such as snake bots, drawing bots, and robotic arms, among hundreds of others. Noting how some of today’s educational robots are overly complex, expensive, or have limited functions, Robot Factory’s Dr. Kim designed PingPong to achieve extensibility and accessibility, while still being affordable.

PingPong is based around modular Cubes — each outfitted with a stepper motor, servo motor interface, rechargeable battery, extension port and a host of sensors, including proximity, accelerometer, and gyroscope. They’re also equipped with BLE 5.0 and an IR sensor to control the Cubes wirelessly (up to a hundred of them at a time) through a companion app.

Each Cube has six interface connectors, which are used with different links to create various robots, such as Cube-to-Cube connectors, wheel connectors, module connectors, decorative, and even Lego connectors. The PingPong Robot app features several robot models that can be built using a preset number of cubes, which are then connected wirelessly after the robot is created and ready to be controlled. Of course, you can still sync and operate your custom robots without issue using the same interface.

As mentioned earlier, Robot Factory is currently crowdfunding their PingPong modular robotic platform on Kickstarter with pledges starting at $95, which gets you a pair of Cubes, USB cable, and manual. Their G6 Basic Set will set (6 Cubes/3 build models) will set you back $290, while their All Basic Set (6 Cubes/13 build models) goes for $360.
