If you’re a writer, or just need to concentrate on writing one thing without distraction, perhaps something like an old word processor would be useful. Though they were large by today’s standards, and without some important features (like cloud starage), they could do one thing well — distraction-free writing. Checking your email constantly or watching cat videos just wasn’t possible.

What if, however, new technology and old lack of distractions could be combined into something new? That’s the idea behind Scripto, a concept from Craig Lam. In a form resembling a small laptop, this proposed device is meant to run on a Raspberry Pi Zero, and be used for writing and writing only. Features like cloud backup and automatic progress tracking are envisioned to help keep you on schedule.

Scripto is also equipped with a Pixel Qi touchscreen that’s readable in sunlight, with a photovoltaic strip that provides extra power on top of its 10-hour battery life. Perhaps we’ll see something like this available for sale or as a crowdfunding campaign in the future! Until then, you can read more on the project on Lam’s page here.
