Snapmaker 2.0 Is a 3-in-1 3D Printer That’s Modular, Capable, and Affordable

If you want a 3D printer, there are dozens of fantastic options on the market — many of which we’ve featured right here on the Hackster blog. Choosing the right printer for you comes down to your requirements and budget, and that often means having to sacrifice something along the way. But the new Snapmaker 2.0, which just launched on Kickstarter, is a modular 3-in-1 3D printer that doesn’t appear to have any downsides.
The Snapmaker 2.0, as the name suggests, is the successor to the Snapmaker. That also launched on Kickstarter and raised more than $2,000,000. The Snapmaker 2.0 has already raised more than $3,000,000, and the campaign will still be running for almost another month. It’s easy to see why so many people are backing the Snapmaker 2.0, because it’s a well-made and capable 3D printer that also works as a laser cutter/engraver and CNC mill. And it does all of that at an extremely reasonable price.
As a 3D printer, the Snapmaker 2.0 has all of the features you’d expect out of a modern design. That includes a touchscreen, automatic bed leveling, a flexible heated bed for easy print removal, and print recovery in the event of power failure or filament runout. Because the Snapmaker 2.0 is modular, the size, and even layout, of the structure can be expanded. At launch, there are three variations available: the A150 (6.3 x 6.3 x 5.7 inch build volume), the A250 (9.1 x 9.8 x 9.3), and the A350 (12.6 x 13.8 x 13.0).
But the Snapmaker 2.0 isn’t just a 3D printer, it’s also a laser cutter and CNC mill. By swapping the extruder out for the 1.6W laser module, you can start cutting or engraving materials like wood or leather. That module has a built-in camera that makes it easy to position and preview your designs. Or you can use the CNC carving module with ER11 collet to mill wood or other soft materials. The Snapmaker 3-in-1 software makes it easy to use all of those features.
If you want a Snapmaker 2.0, the Kickstarter campaign will be running until June 6th. Backers can get the A150 package for $719, the A250 for $899, or the A350 for $1,079. All packages include the 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC milling modules, as well as the accessories to use them, like a spoil board and clamp set. Rewards are expected to be delivered in January of 2020.
