While winter in the northern hemisphere has come and gone, hacker Vittorio Loschavio is prepared for the next cold season with his SnowPlow Robot. This, however, isn’t just any domestic robot, as it would look as at-home in a war zone as pushing snow around on someone’s sidewalk.

The body of this beast is made out of what appears to be heavy plates of metal, and its wheels are covered with metallic treads that provide excellent traction in even the snowiest days. The business end of this snow-tank is a plow supported by three powerful linear actuators, each of which generates a force of 110 lbs, or around 50 kg. These are arranged in such a way that allows the plow to move up/down and left/right, and they are able to maintain position even when not powered.

Control is handled by a PS2 controller, linked wirelessly with the robot’s Arduino Uno via a PS2 Shield. On top is a bright LED search light, enabling the remote user to plow the driveway even in the dark of night.

Be sure to check it out in the video below, making quick work of a mass of snow under the cover of darkness!
