Developed by the creator of MicroView, along with the help of Nathan Seidle, STEMTera is a first-of-its-kind breadboard. Unlike anything you’ve seen before, it features an Arduino-compatible board already inside that works with thousands of shields.

With an ATmega16U2 exposed, native USB projects can be easily developed using the LUFA framework. Not to mention, the LEGO-compatible base empowers devices to be built beyond one’s wildest imagination.

STEMTera was specifically conceived with aspirations of solving a few common issues encountered when using an Arduino and a breadboard: reducing messy wires, enhancing USB development without adding or changing components, and improving adaptability, mountability and protection.

First, STEMTera eliminates wire messes by having two microcontrollers housed right inside the breadboard, thus providing direct access to the ATmega328P and ATmega16U2’s IO pins.

Next, since the ATmega16U2 is exposed, Makers can now develop native USB projects with an extra 21 IO pins. These extra IO pins can work directly with the LUFA framework without having a middleman to translate messages like the original Arduino Uno.

Finally, STEMTera has a LEGO-friendly bottom cover that enables plastic bricks to be connected directly into the breadboard without needing special mounting or adapters.

STEMTera can be programmed like an ordinary Uno using Atmel Studio, Arduino IDE, AVR-GCC, AVR-GCC with LUFA, Codebender, Scratch, or just about any other programming environment that you’ve used to configure the original Arduino.

As to what you can make with the STEMTera Breadboard, the possibilities are endless. Sample projects include everything from USB MIDI wind controller, to a hydroponics pump, to an AIR Wheel for racing games.

Sound like the Arduino-compatible breadboard you’ve always wanted? We thought so. Support our friend JP Liew and back STEMTera on Kickstarter today!
