What, you still extend and retract your ballpoint pen by hand? Perhaps this was a big step up from writing letters with a feather and ink well, but it’s 2017, computers can do these menial tasks for us! To help with this first world problem, hacker Marek Baczynski transformed his pen into a true IoT device.

As seen in the video below, he first developed a Bluetooth phone app for it, but when that wasn’t convenient enough, he attached it to his computer for voice control.

Mechanically, this IoT gadget is based on his previous hack with “Ghlargh,” which uses only a button and a servo extend to the pen, not nearly modern enough for discriminating YouTube connoisseurs.

Finally, if you’d like to learn more about how retractable pens work in general, check out the third, unrelated, video here!
