The Fidget Cube Gets an IoT Makeover

Before the highly addictive fidget spinner took the world by storm, there was the Fidget Cube — a small desk toy that went on to become one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns to date, raising nearly $6.5 million.

As popular as the gadget may be, perhaps they’re a bit too analog, or lacking in the button department for your taste. If that sounds like you, then maybe you should give the IoT Fidget a try, which won’t just keep your restless fingers entertained, but can record your actions to the cloud as well.

This DIY device is equipped with an array of buttons randomly placed on breadboards fastened into a cube around an ESP8266 and LiPo battery. Interesting build features include that the circuit boards forming the open cube are connected to each other with wire sewn around the edges, and that the inside is packed with foam material, presumably to prevent shorts and keep things from rattling loose.
