As Star Wars celebrates its 40th birthday, there are now multiple generations of hackers that grew up watching Jedi and Sith do battle, wishing that they could have some of the awesome technology from the big screen. Though speeder bikes and droids are popular, nothing is so symbolic of the franchise as the lightsaber, “An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.”

While mankind has yet to perfect — or even come close to — mastering production of this type of energy weapon, people have come up with amazing props of the item, including the one in the video seen here.

Details on the build are slim, as its creator is considering a Kickstarter campaign for it, but we do know that it uses a Teensy 3.5 board for control, and that the blade appears in a surge of energy via RGB LEDs, along with accompanying sounds.

Additional sound effects can be heard when weilding the weapon, and different lighting modes are available to keep wannabe Jedi and Sith entertained for hours!
