As seen in its Kickstarter video, L.U.C.Y can act as a personal assistant, taking and sending messages, making reservations and even answering simple questions, such as “will it rain tonight?” We’ve all seen similar devices such as the Amazon Echo, but L.U.C.Y has a few features that these gadgets lack in many cases: a wall-mounted touchscreen form factor, an HD camera for facial recognition, and communication protocols including Wi-Fi Bluetooth, and ZigBee.

L.U.C.Y. can connect to many devices throughout your smart home, several of which can be used together. The system has a companion smartphone app as well, so you should never be without your helper. It can also serve as a digital chalkboard that lets you write down messages for other members of your family or your roommates.

Whether or not L.U.C.Y. takes off, it’s safe to say that voice-controlled assistants like Alexa, Siri, Google Now and Cortana are the way of the future. Interested? Be sure to check it out on Kickstarter or on their website.
