Like most of us, our pal Mike (CEO of the Useless Duck Company) has a tendancy of losing track of time. Just the other day, he was busy gaming on his computer and received an alert on his phone, notifying him that he was late to a very important meeting.

Subsequently, he decided to create a fun little system to prevent this from happening again. His solution? The Rick and Morty Alarm.

The alarm consists of a Windows Forms application that sends a serial signal to an Arduino Uno, triggering a stepper motor along with a 3D-printed rack and pinion to move a cutout of the TV show’s Screaming Sun.

All you need to do is enter the hours, minutes and/or seconds remaining before an appointment, and the alarm will begin counting down. When the time runs out, the Rick and Morty character rises as it sounds an incredibly annoying yell through the computer’s speakers.

Since this worked so well on his desktop, Mike has even developed a mobile app to help him get out of bed in the morning. You can see both systems in action below!
