Back in April, we called upon all innovators in the United States to participate in the 2018 China-US Young Makers Competition. The contest — organized by China Ministry of Education, and co-sponsored by Google, Tsinghua University, Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, and Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group — encouraged those between the ages of 18–40 to devise projects capable of solving real world problems.

Submissions ranged from AI water detection systems and solar-powered monitors to open source robotics platforms and assistive wearable devices. 10 projects have now been selected — based on their creativity, completeness, and application prospects — and will be invited to fly to Beijing, China as semi-finalists in next month’s final competition. There, these makers will compete for a $15,000 first place prize along with international bragging rights!
