If you’ve always wished you could walk into a room to your own theme song, you’re going to love this recent project from Matt Reed and the redpepper team. To make their dream a reality, they built a boomin’ system — dubbed “Doorjam” — that plays a personalized Spotify tune whenever someone steps foot through the door.

As to how it works, you first start by selecting a song using an accompanying app via Spotify’s API. The Doorjam’s speaker then emits an iBeacon signal which creates an invisible zone around it. When the app is sensed nearby, it fires off the user’s theme song through the Internet to the speaker. The song preview MP3 is remotely played from Spotify’s servers and output to the AUX input of the blaster.

A Raspberry Pi serves as the brains of the operation, enabling the Doorjam to send and receive commands over the web. Reed provides an elaborate overview of the project here.

The question is, what would be your theme song?
