This Guy Created a Slithering Robo-Snake With 12 Servos

There are many ways to get from one place to another robot-wise. Your bot could use wheels, walk, fly, or as laid out in this Instructables article by hacker “joesinstructables,” you can also have it slither around like a snake.

His robot, which he calls the “Lake Erie Mamba,” has an Arduino Mega for a brain and uses 12 servos to twist back and forth in an S-pattern. When reconfigured, it can inch forward like a worm, using rectilinear motion; sidewind, where it sort of slides perpendicular to the normal snaking direction; and can even roll itself into a wheel and move across the floor.

The versatile device can be remote controlled via an automotive-style key fob, or can work autonomously with an IR sensor on a micro servo to observe its environment.
